Ravenstein, situated in the northern east of Brabant has a rich history. It was built in 1360 because of her strategical location near river the Maas. From 1397-1794 it was the capital city of the land of Ravenstein, a German enclave in the Holland states. In this period the land of Ravenstein was a battlefield during many wars between Brabant and Gelre. Important was the freedom of religion: a possibiliy for catholics to be religious in the protestant Brabant.
When you visit Ravenstein you wander through the past. You see parts of ramparts from ages ago and beautiful monuments. The city invites to visit by the de immemorial city town-gates, medieval streets, canals, churches, mill and other special buildings.
Ravenstein has a railway train station and is reachable by car, through highway A50, exit 17. Also you can reach Ravenstein per boat through the quay and the yacht-basin.
