Nijmegen: the oldest city of Holland |
Everyone knows the oldest city of Holland. By Emperor Karel de Grote Nijmegen became an imperial city. High above the river and in de middle of the woods a an encampment was established.
By the sociability at the terraces, for example at the Waal, over which many ships navigate. Or the panoramas over de river, the Betuwe and the Ooij polder, which made Nijmegen for the Romans an ideal settlement.
Nijmegen is a shopping city with various shops. The most appealing are the typical paths of Nijmegen, with little shops and nice restaurants. Round the Sint Stevens church for example, or the Hezelstraat. Very modern is the Marikenstraat and the Moenenstraat.
